New Director of Hockey Operations

CCYHA is pleased to announce the hiring of Gordy Haggard as the new Director of Hockey Operations. Gordy comes to the organization bringing an extensive and notable hockey background to the position. Having over 20 years of playing and 14 years of coaching experience, Haggard is ready to help shape the next generation of youth hockey in Columbus.

“I am very excited to join CCYHA and the amazing opportunity to play a large role in the development of youth hockey players and coaches in the organization. Being around the sport in central Ohio for the past 18 years, I’m humbled to witness the growth and look forward to creating a path for all youth hockey players to achieve their goals on and off the ice.”

Prior to joining CCYHA, Gordy held leadership positions with Ohio AAA Blue Jackets as an assistant coach and also served as a Director of Member Services with Wheels Up. He made Columbus his home in 2004 after accepting a position with the Columbus Blue Jackets in their Marketing and Fan Development departments, where he was heavily involved in the overall growth of the sport in central Ohio. As the Director of Hockey Operations, Gordy will oversee the areas of player and coaching development as well as the house and travel hockey programs, continuing the CCYHA history of teaching fundamentals of hockey in addition to sportsmanship, work ethic and character.

Haggard is a graduate of Culver Military Academy and Indiana University. He has two sons who are part of CCYHA teams and when not at the rink or on the ice, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.

CCYHA President Amy Weeks says “We are vey fortunate to have such an experienced coach and hockey expert joining CCYHA. We are thankful to Gord Rivington for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

While his official start date will be May 1, 2022, you may see him around the rink during our upcoming travel tryouts in April.
