Derek Dorsett Named 2014AA Head Coach for 2023-24 season

The Columbus Chill Youth Hockey Association is proud to announce the selection of Derek Dorsett as the 2014 AA Head Coach for the 2023-2024 season.

A 2006 Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick, Coach Dorsett made Columbus home following his 10-year NHL hockey career, where he played for the Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. He currently works for the Columbus Blue Jackets as a Player Development Coach and also coaches The Battery Select 2014 youth hockey team. In addition to his development experience at the NHL level, Coach Dorsett is currently in his third season as a Skills/Assistant Coach for the Upper Arlington High School varsity hockey team.

“CCYHA is extremely lucky to have the experience and passion a coach like Derek Dorsett brings to our organization,” said Gordy Haggard, CCYHA Director of Hockey Operations. “In speaking with Coach Dorsett, it was clear his coaching philosophy and vision for development align well with our organization’s mission. We look forward to opportunities for growth not only with his team, but other teams and coaches within CCYHA.”

“The return to Columbus with my family has been great and being a part of my son’s hockey journey in the city I was drafted is very special,” said Coach Dorsett. “We are fortunate to have so many fantastic coaches in central Ohio and I’m looking forward to building a solid foundation the 2014’s can build on as they begin their hockey journey.”

CCYHA will host tryouts for the 2014 birth year in early April. Formal announcements, including dates, start times, and registration will be added to our website in the next couple weeks. Coaches for all remaining Co-Ed and Girls teams will be released closer to tryouts, following the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season!
