From Orthopedic One: SPORT SPECIALIZATION IN YOUTH ATHLETES

The growing evidence of the correlation between sport specialization and overuse injuries in athletes is a hot topic amongst coaches and parents.

The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) classifies sport specialization as “year-round participation in a single sport, usually at the exclusion of other sports”.

The effect of sport specialization is three-pronged and impacts young athletes on a physical, mental, and psychosocial level.
